On March 20, 2019, our Philippine partner, the Virlanie Foundation, was delighted to hold the graduation ceremony for mothers and girls having completed the vocational training offered by the iLead Open Day Center for Education and Training (ODC-ET).

Since 2018, Accor Solidarity and the local Accor teams of 5 Group establishments have supported this programme in favour of the insertion of women in great difficulty, through training in the cooking, baking, sewing and care/beauty professions.

The teams and beneficiaries were all present for the graduation ceremony for the 8th class of mothers and young girls in training!

Among the 22 beneficiaries graduating from the programme, 12 were able to obtain access to microcredit to start their business. They were also given as a gift the tools enabling them to do so (oven, sewing machine, etc.)

A program fostering empowerment

Mother of four Ate Janet Odon, 39, took the cooking training course. She explains:

In addition to being a full-time mother, receiving part-time training at the ODC (afternoon and evening), Ate Janet also sells home-cooked fare every morning to supplement the family income. Thanks to the new skills she acquired from the ODC-ET, she has confidence in the future and is hopeful that earning more regular income will improve her situation.

Accor teams, long-standing support for Virlanie

Accor employees, partners and loyal supporters of Virlanie, were also present at the ceremony to cheer on these 22 newly-qualified women and congratulate them on their efforts and their success.

Nikko Matias, Area Talent & Culture Manager, Accor Philippines, used this event to share his enthusiasm for this programme that is transforming lives:

The Accor teams collaborate with the Foundation throughout the year, donating equipment, participating in workshops and events with the beneficiaries, organising donations or inviting Virlanie beneficiaries to their facility for visits or discover its trades. These are some of the ways our employees can “share and give back to their community in a tangible and effective way”, as illustrated by Joanna, Elaine, Jeanette, Jessica, Bea, Nico and Kristine, all committed Accor volunteers.
